Penelope Penguin

This was created with PSP 9, but any version should work.

  1. You can download the PSP file of my outline here.

  2. Select the body layer.  With your magic wand click on the back section and flood fill with #404040 or a dark gray.  Float your selection.  Go to effects, 3-d cutout, and apply a cutout with the following settings.  Vertical & horizontal 1, opacity 100, blur 20, and color #000000.  Deselect.

  3. Select the top wing.  Flood fill with #404040.  Select with your magic wand, float, cutout with the same settings only a blur of 15.  Deselect.

  4. Select the dark portion of the head with the magic wand.  Flood fill with #404040.  Float, apply cutout, same settings only a blur of 7.  Deselect.

  5. Select the back wing.  Flood fill with #535353.  Float, apply cutout,  settings vert -2, horiz -1 and a blur of 2.  Deselect.

  6. Select the chest.  Flood fill with white.  Float and apply a cut out with the settings vert and horiz both 2.  Opacity 70.  Blur 10. Color #C0C0C0

  7. Select the face.  Flood fill with white.  Float and apply the same cutout as in the last step.  Change your foreground color to #800000.  Select your airbrush tool with the settings of size 15, hardness 50, step 10, density 50.  And spray a cheek,  then go to adjust, blur, gaussian blur with a setting of 3.  Deselect

  8. Select the feet and flood fill with #d7915d.  Float and apply a cutout with the settings,  vert. 3 horiz. -2, opacity 100, cutout  7, and color #bc611e. 

  9. Select the top of the beak.  Flood fill with #d7915d.  Float.  Apply a cutout with the settings vert 2, horiz. 0, opacity 100, cutout 4, color #bc611e.

  10. Select the bottom of the beak,  Flood fill with #d7915d.  Float apply a cutout with the settings Vert. 2, horiz. 0, opacity 50, blur 2. 

  11. Select your paintbrush with the settings, size 1, opacity 100, step 25, density 100, color #588d43 and fill in the leaves on the flower.

  12. Change your color to #b01a1a and fill in the center of the flower.

  13. Change your foreground color to black #000000.  Add little dots around the outside of the dark part of your penguin to give him a fuzzy look.

  14. Select the background layer and delete it, then merge visible.  You can then save her as a PSP file or as a gif.

  15. Feel free to play around with the colors and settings.  I hope you enjoyed my little girl.
