Mary Mary

In this tutorial you will make Mary of the nursery rhyme Mary Mary quite contrary. This tutorial was created with PSP 7.04 but can also be easily done in other versions. Before you begin you will
need to download the following supplies.
My selections and tubes for the dress fill, bow, and bouquet. get them here
Unzip the selections to your selections folder and open the fill for the dress, bow and the flowers in PSP and minimize
for the time being.
The flowers I used in this tutorial were created from a wonderful tutorial at Country Scraps. You are welcome to use my flowers or go to Angela's site and make them for yourself. It is a fun
tutorial!
Remember to save often!
1. Open new image 450X500 transparent.
2. Add a new layer and name it skirt. Set your foreground color to #4F8767 and the background to your fill pattern, scale 100 and angle 0. Load the selection skirt.sel. Flood fill with your
foreground color. Modify, contract 1 and then flood fill with your background pattern. Deselect. Save.
3. Add a new layer and name it trim. Set foreground color to #D9D1E5 and your background color to #FCE6EC. Load selection trim.sel. Flood fill with your foreground color. Modify, contract 1 and flood
fill with your background color. Deselect. Save.
4. Add a new layer and name it bodice. Set your foreground color to #4F8767 and the background to your fill pattern. Load the selection bodice.sel. Flood fill with your foreground color. Modify,
contract 1 and then flood fill with your background pattern. Deselect. Save.
5. Add a new layer under the bodice layer. Your foreground color is still #4F8767 and the background is null. Using your airbrush with the following settings draw pl along the top of the skirt.


6. Add a new layer and name it hand. Change your foreground color to #F8DBC5. Load selection hand.sel and flood fill with your foreground color. Float the selection and then apply the following
cutout.

7. Add a new layer and name it sleeve. Set your foreground color to #4F8767 and the background to your fill pattern. Load the selection sleeve.sel. Flood fill with your foreground color. Modify,
contract 1 and then flood fill with your background pattern. Deselect. Save.
8. Add a new layer and name it bonnet. Set your foreground color to #4F8767 and the background to your fill pattern. Load the selection bonnet.sel. Flood fill with your foreground color. Modify,
contract 1 and then flood fill with your background pattern. Deselect. Save.
9. Add a new layer and name it ribbon. Set foreground color to #D9D1E5 and your background color to #FCE6EC. Load selection ribbon.sel. Flood fill with your foreground color. Modify, contract 1 and
flood fill with your background color. Deselect. Open the bow that I included in the zip file. Copy and paste it as a new layer then move it into position on the hat band. Save.
10. Add a new layer above the sleeve layer and name it hair. Set the foreground color to a dark brown, I used ##795948, and the foreground as a medium brown, I used #8B6553. Load selection hair.sel
and flood fill with the medium brown color. Add a new layer and select your draw tool with the settings type single line, width 1 antialias and vector unchecked. Draw several lines with the dark
brown for the highlights of her hair. Invert the selection and delete to delete any lines that went outside the selection. Invert the selection again and apply a gaussian blur with a radius of .50
Deselect. Save.

11. Add a new layer under the hand layer. Open the bouquet tube and copy and paste as a new selection. Move it into place. Alternative, if you created your own flowers from Country Scraps tutorial copy and paste your flowers as a new selection to form a pretty bouquet, place a layer under the flowers. With your foreground set at a dark green #4F8767 go to your draw tool with the settings type freehand. Line width 1, antialias checked and vector unchecked. Draw your stems so it looks like she is holding the flowers in her hand.
