This makes a wonderful birthday or wedding cake!
1 c. Crisco
3 c. sugar
2-¼ c. ice water
2 tsp. Vanilla
½ tsp. Almond extract
1 tsp salt
8 egg whites
4-½ c. cake flour
4-½ tsp. Baking powder
Cream the sugar and shortening together. Sift flour and measure. Add salt
and sift again. Add to creamed mixture alternately with ice water. Beat
well after each addition. Add flavoring and keep beating until light and
fluffy. Beat egg whites until foamy. Add baking powder, a spoonful at a
time. Eat until egg whites are stiff, but not dry. Fold into cake batter. Pour
batter into three greased and wax paper lined 9-inch pans or 1 large sheet
cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
