Dad

I would like to tell you a little about one  of my heroes.  My Dad Pete.  Dad was born in 1922 in Staples Minnesota to a single mother.  Shortly after Dad was born my grandmother married and her new husband adopted Dad.  He has 4 half sisters and 1 half brother by this marriage.  Dad moved to Montana to live with his aunt and uncle in his early teens due to the fact that his step-father was an alcoholic who would go into drunken rages and abuse him.  Shortly after high school Dad started working for Northern Pacific Railroad.  In 1942 my parents married and a couple months later Dad was drafted and was shipped overseas.  During WWII he served in Australia, the Philippines and New Guinea.  In 1943 while he was over seas that my sister was born.  After the war he resumed his job for the railroad.  My brother was born in 1946 and I was a whoops and was born in 1958 :-)

Dad was always a quiet man and his life revolved around his family, especially my Mom.  He was an avid reader and could easily go through a book a day.  His pride was his roses as he loved to garden.  Every Sunday as long as he was able he would take our little dog Keno and go for a ride in the country in his truck.  I used to love to go with him.  I can still picture him sitting behind the wheel whistling and singing a Marty Robbins tune.

Right before he retired Dad was diagnosed with emphysema caused by a lifetime of working in a polluted environment at the railroad and smoking cigarettes.  He quit smoking too late :-(

Dad went to Heaven the 21st of December just shortly after Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary.

Here is a special poem I found that I dedicate to my Dad.
