Elvis

After a lengthy & stoic battle with cancer, Elvis, our cat, 14, was put to rest peacefully and with dignity on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 2 p.m.

What started as some random weight loss grew to become known to us as heart disease.  Finally as the mysterious "scratch" that would not heal on his nose became worse, we realized the worst: our beloved cat had cancer.  We had to let him go...

Elvis was with us from the beginning of our relationship, through our marriage, saw me get sober, helped me when I wasn't, supported me through my college years, and through all the transitions in between.  He  was an integral part of our family and we are heartbroken.

Elvis brought much happiness, love & sometimes, terror to all he met.  He was a big fraidy cat and to cover that, he hissed at strangers who entered our home, but deep down was just scared and hoped no one was gonna mess with him.

We will always remember his blue eyes, white fuzziness & of course, his sense of humor.

Some things he thought were funny:

--He like to stick his paw into full cups and pull them over.  And when the water or drink splashed out, he would run....

--He liked to climb into the bathroom sink and wait for me to turn on the water so he could drink fresh water.

--Elvis climbed into the fireplace to "inspect" it upon our move-in to our new house.  Normally this would not be an issue, except that Elvis is a white cat!  Well, after that incident, Elvis was gray & black for a week! And he nonchalantly strolled around like no one could see that he had done anything mischievous...

--Our dog Cody, an Aussie Sheppard mix, has a standing food dish & water bowl holder.  On two occasions, I have caught Elvis eating Cody's dog food.  To get this, he had to stand on his tippy toes to reach the bowl!!  Needless to say, Cody was always very jealous on those days!!

--Elvis probably thought he was a dog because he learned to use the dog door before Cody.  Only to come into the house, though.  He never figured it out that the door swung out, too...  Funny cat...

He is survived by his brother, Cody, & lots of family & friends who grew to love & accept Elvis & all his quirks.

He will be very, very missed...

We love you very much, Elvis...Godspeed...

Love,

Mommy & Daddy & Cody
